In The Art Depot App
The app is used as a booking system for an after school Art Club.
This has helped booking management, giving the teacher more time to focus on the club activities.
Problem Statement
Client and User: Teacher (Manager of Art Club)
Main User: Parents
Target audience for Art Club: Children 4-11 years old.
Created for an after school art club; instead of paperwork and forms, the client wanted to digitise their product, giving them enough time to dedicate to the club, children and activities.
The app minimised paper work and admin consent forms.
Parents use the app to create a profile for their child, book and pay for a space ‘in the art depot’.
Colour: The client wanted to keep the pastel theme and from the selection of three colours for the log in page, lilac was selected. The theme colours are currently under review with other options available.
Discovery & Design
Following user interviews, a persona was generated and the information architecture was laid out.
Research noted that the consent form needed to be digitised to reduce the influx of paperwork; parents often misplaced/lost their forms. With 25 children in the club, it improved the user experience for all.
A digital profile for each child contained fundamental information (additional needs/medical/allergies).
- A key functionality was to have a calendar and attendance tracker. No attendance could be marked by the parent prior to the session.
- A waiting list functionality was a requirement for children who applied with unavailable space. The parent could add to waiting list to join next term.
- With a manual system, places were confirmed without payment. This affected business, therefore a process to make payment mandatory after a place was confirmed was included.
- The Homepage would contain news and updates to inform the parents.
- The navigation was simple and generated positive feedback.
Future Ideas:
A page with a parent forum, FAQs and be frequently updated providing information to parents.
The teacher to have a profile with additional features, to be discussed with the client (main user).
The ability to send a private message to the teacher.
Amendment in colour scheme.
