Smart Phone Booking App

The purpose of this app was to limit the amount of phone calls to the Patient Referral Centre and to digitise the booking journey for examinations.

Problem Statement

  • The existing app had limitations and the product owners wanted it improved for a better user experience.

  • Product owners wanted the option to speak to an advisor removed to minimise calls to the Patient Referral Centre and keep the booking process completely digital, in the hands of the patient.

  • When selecting an appointment, the patient would hover over it, select the appointment and then click to confirm it. This was an additional step in the user journey, which could have been made more efficient.

  • Functionality requested by product owners was to be able to go back and forth in the user journey when selecting appointments, with the option to view more appointments (maximum 6).

  • Colour: Needed to be branded with NHS colours and guidelines; NHS blue was used throughout along with a lighter blue, which is one of the company branded colours.

  • Typography/Font: ‘Inter’ as available on Figma, however the NHS font to be incorporated at development stage would be Frutiger.

UI Prototypes

New UI Designs

  • The new designs offer the patient a more seamless booking experience.

  • The user inputs their email address to generate three available appointments.

  • It would also show dark blue on hover, compared to the previous UI.

  • The user always has the option to go back to view their appointments.

  • The user can can click ‘View Appointments’ to display an additional three appointments, a total of six as a maximum. If these are still unsuitable, the user would ‘Close’ and check again at a later date.

  • Additional information sits within drop downs .

  • The UX UI changes are not drastic, but they will provide an efficient patient pathway.

This has been signed off by the product owners, but is a work in progress; there could be new features added in future phases.

Future Plans:

A new up to date booking system, made more interactive and efficient for users to book appointments.

Calendar system for patients with slots to book appointments according to their own availability.

The ability to cancel and modify appointments.
